Encrypted VBR VoIP Leaks Information Imprimer
Écrit par I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property

Researchers have found that encrypted VoIP calls that use variable bit rates leak a substantial amount of information, enough that they were able to identify the language spoken without being able to decrypt the packets.

In their paper (PDF), they detail how they were able to deduce all this from the fact that VBR prevents the encryption from hiding the length of the plaintext, and thus their program was able to get a 14-fold improvement over random guessing. This will, no doubt, be of great interest to any governments which have expensive ways of brute forcing the encryption and want to prioritize which encrypted calls they crack.
